DCS Helps Shape New APA Technical Bulletin on Color in Concrete

SEPTEMBER 2021

DCS’ Cathy Higgins has been a participant in an effort by the Architectural Precast Association to create a document on color in concrete.

The document, Technical Bulletin 21, “Color in Architectural Precast, Cast Stone & Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete,” is a key resource in helping ensure the best color results in concrete. A group of individuals including APA Technical Committee chairs and other subject matter experts have been meeting since March 2020 to create this document.

“Color in Architectural Precast, Cast Stone & Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete” is designed to help specifiers of colored architectural precast:

  • Address expectations regarding color and color choice;

  • Review the factors that can affect the color of concrete, both during and after production

  • Identify design considerations that affect color which specifiers should evaluate when designing a project; and

  • Identify considerations to take into account when reviewing samples and product.

This great new resource will be presented to the APA membership at their annual convention in Nashville, TN, in October. Jimmy Crawford will sit on the panel to answer any questions about the document and more generally about coloring concrete successfully.
