DCS is a strong supporter of a wide range of industry efforts that help to promote best practices and enhance the market for integrally colored concrete products.

One such effort involves the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). ASTM is a standard-setting body that develops consensus standards for a broad array of materials and processes—including many that impact the concrete products industry.

Currently, Higgins is chairing ASTM Section C09.23.05 on Pigments for Integrally Colored Concrete. DCS participated in a week of meetings of the ASTM CO9 Committee on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, which took place Dec. 8–11 in Houston, Texas.

“The process of coming up with consensus standards can be difficult. But having the standards results in better integrally colored concrete and happier customers. Participating in groups like ASTM is one of the things we do to look out for the interests of our customers," Higgins said.
